About This Experience
The cruise leaves from the Akadémia 2 pontoon on the Pest side, the second dock from the Chain Bridge as you walk toward Parliament. Look for the Gróf Széchenyi or the Stadt Wien, the historic ships used for this cruise, and arrive at least 15 minutes before your booked time, because the boat leaves on schedule. The whole evening takes about an hour and a half, which makes it easy to fit in before a late drink in town or after a full day of sightseeing.
Dinner is a set menu you pick when you book: Urban Classic (pork), Paprika Mood (poultry) or Veggie Flow (vegetarian), all at the same price. The listing describes a mix of Hungarian and international dishes without naming them. Reviewers praise the portions and the dessert, and one guest was brought a gluten-free dessert without having asked in advance. The complaint that comes up is food arriving lukewarm. A welcome drink is included, and anything else is bought on board.
The music and dancing get the warmest comments in reviews. Musicians from the Rajkó Folk Orchestra play traditional Hungarian tunes, including on the cimbalom, a hammered string instrument. Reviewers describe the band moving between tables and taking requests, and a costumed dancing couple who stop for photos with guests. It is a lively, sociable evening, and families and couples alike say they enjoyed it, including one family whose children danced along.
The route takes in the Parliament building and Margaret Bridge, the Buda skyline of Matthias Church, Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion, the Citadella on Gellért Hill and the National Theatre, then returns to Akadémia. Ninety minutes is enough to see the main stretch of riverfront by night without the evening dragging, though it leaves less time to linger over dinner than a longer cruise would.
On dates checked in late October 2026 it cost $75 per person for any of the three menus, and the page shows 2,223 reviews with a 4.4 average. It suits a first evening in Budapest if you want food, folk music and the main sights in one shorter outing. Transfers are not included, so make your own way to the dock. If hot food matters a lot to you, or you would like your drinks included, compare all dinner cruises before you book.

Lovely cruise along the Danube with beautifully lit buildings. The music was great. A small orchestra that also went around the tables and played requests. The dancing couple also did a great job and even came around the tables to take a photo together. The only thing that was disappointing was that the food was lukewarm. Otherwise, it was tasty. Especially the dessert.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which boat will I be on?
The cruise runs on one of two historic ships, the Gróf Széchenyi or the Stadt Wien. Both leave from the Akadémia 2 pontoon, the second dock from the Chain Bridge toward Parliament on the Pest side, so look for either name when you arrive.
Can I choose a vegetarian menu?
Yes. When you book you pick one of three menus: Urban Classic (pork), Paprika Mood (poultry) or Veggie Flow (vegetarian). They all cost the same. The listing does not name the individual dishes, but describes a mix of Hungarian and international cooking.
How long is the cruise?
About an hour and a half. The boat leaves at your booked time, so arrive at least 15 minutes early. That is long enough to see Parliament, Buda Castle and Gellért Hill by night and eat dinner, though it is a shorter evening than the 2.5-hour cruises.
Are drinks included?
One welcome drink is included. Any other drinks are sold on board, so budget a little extra if you would like wine or beer with dinner. If you would prefer drinks included all evening, the open-bar cruises on this site cover that.
Is the folk show good for children?
Families seem to enjoy it. One recent reviewer said their children ate everything and danced along, and others describe the musicians playing requests at the tables and the dancers stopping for photos. It is a lively evening and only about 90 minutes long, which helps with younger children.
