About This Experience
This is a sightseeing cruise with a simple Hungarian supper served at your table. It runs on the Gróf Széchenyi, a historic paddle steamer, from the Akadémia 2 pontoon on the Pest bank. Boarding opens at 6:30pm, seats are assigned, and the boat leaves at 7pm sharp, so give yourself time to find the dock. The cruise lasts about 90 minutes, which leaves plenty of the evening for a proper dinner or a drink in town afterwards.
You choose the food when you book. The two cheaper options are a bowl of gulyás (goulash soup) or a freshly made, crisp lángos; the third gets you both. Whichever you pick comes to your table with one welcome drink, Prosecco or juice, and further drinks are sold on board. Reviewers who had the soup liked it, and one mentions sponge cake afterwards, but the listing does not promise dessert, so treat that as a bonus if it appears.
Live music comes from the Rajkó Folk Ensemble. Reviewers single out the violinist and describe the band going from table to table playing requests, and for several guests that was their favourite part of the evening. The listing promises live entertainment from the ensemble and says nothing about dancers, and one recent guest noted there were none on their cruise. A host greets guests in English.
The route takes in the Parliament building and Margaret Bridge, the Buda skyline of Matthias Church, Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion, the Citadella on Gellért Hill and the National Theatre. With a 7pm start, a summer cruise begins in daylight and ends after dark, which one reviewer recommends for seeing the buildings properly. The same reviewer, writing in August 2026, said Parliament and the palaces were not lit at the time because of power supply problems, so do not count on floodlighting.
On dates checked in late October 2026 it cost $49 per person with either gulyás or lángos, and $55 with both. The page shows 2,639 reviews with a 4.4 average. It suits travellers who want an hour and a half on the river with something warm to eat, without paying for a long dinner. It is not suitable for wheelchair users. If you want a full meal or a folk dance show, compare all dinner cruises.

The crew on board was super OK. The food was OK. It's an ideal time for the cruise... 7:00 p.m. The view is wonderful. We will definitely come back.

Boarding the boat was quick and easy. The waiters were very attentive. We had a delicious goulash soup followed by sponge cake. Just a lovely evening spent cruising the Danube. The only thing was we didn't get to see the dancers.

Frequently Asked Questions
What food do I get?
It depends on the option you book: a bowl of gulyás (goulash soup), a freshly made lángos, or both. The food is served at your table with one welcome drink, Prosecco or juice. The listing does not include dessert or a full dinner, though one reviewer mentions being served sponge cake.
What time does the cruise leave?
The listing says the boat departs at exactly 7pm, with boarding from 6:30pm. Seats are assigned, and the cruise lasts about 90 minutes. Check the time on your voucher too, and arrive with a few minutes to spare so you are not rushing down the embankment.
How much does each option cost?
On dates checked in late October 2026, gulyás only or lángos only cost $49 per person, and the option with both cost $55 per person. Drinks beyond the welcome Prosecco or juice are extra and paid for on board.
Is there a folk dance show?
The listing promises live entertainment from the Rajkó Folk Ensemble but does not mention dancers, and one recent reviewer said they did not see any. The band itself gets warm reviews, especially the violinist, and the musicians play requests at the tables. If dancing matters to you, choose a cruise that lists a dance show.
Where does the boat leave from?
From the Akadémia 2 pontoon on the Danube embankment. Boarding opens at 6:30pm for the 7pm departure. Hotel pickup is not included, so plan your own way to the dock and check your voucher for any final details before you set out.
