How a Folk Show Dinner Cruise Works
Four steps from choosing a date to stepping off at the pier.
Pick your evening
Choose the cruise and a date in the live calendar. Most boats sail once or twice an evening; the calendar shows the real times and the price for that night.
Get your voucher
Confirmation and a mobile voucher arrive by email straight away. It names the exact pier, which differs by operator, so check it before you set out.
Board on the Pest bank
Arrive 20 to 30 minutes early. Staff scan the voucher at the pontoon and show you to your table, which is allocated by group size.
Dine, sail, step off
Dinner is served while the boat loops past the Parliament and Buda Castle, then returns to the same pier. Free cancellation runs until 24 hours before.

The Three Folk Show Dinner Cruises Compared
Same river, same lights. The difference is the band, the length and how much of the evening is dinner.

Choosing
Which Folk Show Cruise to Book
If the music matters as much as the meal, book the 4-course dinner and folk dance cruise from Dock 6. It runs two hours, so the show and the dinner each get room, the Ökrös Band plays live, and a folklore dance performance happens between the tables. It was $99 per person on every date we checked in late October 2026, whichever of the four menus you pick.
The Rajkó folk orchestra cruise is the shorter, cheaper alternative at $75 for about 90 minutes. The Rajkó musicians play the cimbalom, a hammered string instrument that gives Hungarian folk music its ringing, rippling sound, and a costumed couple dances. Reviewers like how close the band comes: the musicians move between tables and take requests. The trade-off is time. Ninety minutes is enough for the sights and the show, but dinner can feel hurried, and the one recurring complaint is food arriving lukewarm. Our Rajkó review →
Silverline’s dinner and folk show cruise is the one to choose if you want a guaranteed window. It sells a window-table option at $130 against $102 for a standard table, which neither of the other two folk show cruises offers. A band, a singer and dancers perform while four courses are served, and sailings start around sunset, so the show picks up as the lights come on along the banks. Our Silverline review →
What a folk show on a dinner boat is like
It is close up and informal. There is no stage and no separate show time. The musicians play in the dining room, usually violin, bass and the cimbalom, and the dancers perform in the aisle between tables in embroidered costume. On some evenings they pull a guest or two into a dance. It is lively and sociable, which is what most guests come for, and it means these are not the cruises for a quiet conversation. For that, the Legenda candlelit cruise has live music without the dancing.
Food and drink
All three let you choose a vegetarian menu, and you choose it when you book, not on board. The Dock 6 cruise has two traditional Hungarian menus, a poultry menu and a vegetarian one; the Rajkó cruise has pork, poultry or vegetarian set menus. Silverline offers a vegetarian option on its four courses. On every one, the only drink included is a welcome glass, and the rest is bought from a menu on your table. You cannot bring your own.
If you want the band but not a full dinner, the gulyás and lángos cruise has the Rajkó ensemble playing over a bowl of goulash soup for $49. It does not promise a dance show, and one guest noticed none.
Where they board
The Dock 6 cruise boards on the Pest embankment near Vigadó tér. The Rajkó cruise uses the Akadémia 2 pontoon, the second dock from the Chain Bridge towards Parliament, on the Gróf Széchenyi or the Stadt Wien. Silverline has its own pier on the Pest side near Elisabeth Bridge and asks you to be there 30 minutes early. All three return to where they started, so you step off in the middle of Pest. "Loved our evening on the dinner river cruise ! Dancing and music was beautiful"
"A magical and unforgettable evening on the Danube! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We took the evening river cruise with dinner in Budapest on Thursday, October 15, and it was simply a fantastic experience that exceeded all our expectations! Seeing Budapest illuminated at night from the water is a breathtaking sight: the Parliament, Buda Castle and the historic bridges create a truly romantic and captivating atmosphere. The 4-course dinner was excellent, with carefully prepared, delicious and beautifully presented dishes. Special praise also goes to the entertainment: the live folk music made the evening lively, engaging and culturally rich, without ever being intrusive. The staff on board were extremely courteous, professional and attentive to every detail, making us feel pampered throughout the entire excursion. An experience that I highly recommend to anyone visiting Budapest for a special and memorable evening. Not to be missed!"
"Food was lovely, really enjoyed the goulash and the duck. The prosecco was lovely too so we ended up getting a bottle. Reasonably priced for drinks. We enjoyed the entertainment, especially the dancers. It was a great night and experience, I would recommend."

"Amazing food, entertainment, and views! We really thought this surpassed expectations, with some really fun live music and even dancing. The food was really nice, and well presented, just enough to fill us up and not feel too stuffed. The views of the city and landmarks at night from the boat were stunning too. Brilliant experience and a great way to see the city."

Folk Show Dinner Cruise FAQ
Short answers about the music, the food and the boats.
Three of the cruises we review have live folk music and dancing during dinner: the 4-course folk dance cruise from Dock 6, the Rajkó folk orchestra cruise from Akadémia 2 and Silverline's dinner and folk show cruise.
No. The musicians play in the dining room and the dancers perform between the tables, so it is close up and informal. Reviewers describe the band taking requests and the dancers stopping for photos, and on some evenings pulling guests into a dance.
Yes. The 4-course folk dance cruise and the Rajkó cruise both sell a vegetarian set menu as a booking option, at the same price as the meat menus, and Silverline offers a vegetarian option. Choose it when you book, not on board.
One welcome drink only. On all three, beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks are bought on board, and you cannot bring your own. If you want drinks included, the River Diva cruise has an open bar but no folk show.
Families are a regular sight on all three, and the music and dancing keep children busy. On the Dock 6 cruise, under-3s who are not eating need no ticket, but tell the operator so a seat can be set. The Dock 6 and Silverline boats are not suitable for wheelchair users; the Rajkó listing does not say, so ask the operator before booking.
Only on the Silverline cruise, which sells a window-table option for about $28 more per person. On the other two, tables are allocated on the night and a window seat is not promised.
